InterDam - Sharing experience on the design and testing of blast & fire resistant sandwich panels

This webinar presents an update of the use ability of fire and blast resistant sandwich panels for on and offshore installations. A series of tests have demonstrated that sandwich panels can be used to withstand a blast of over 0,5 bar and still keep its fire and gastight properties. This sandwich panel can be regarded as Generation V fire and blast resistant walls, containing improvements on weight and cost saving on earlier generations.   All 5 types will be discussed, presenting their individual properties. The results of a series of blast tests are presented as well as Ansys FEM input recalibrating figures. Sandwich panels can, in combination with blast impact reducing profiles, furthermore be used to reduce the blast load to the support structure, thus further reducing weight and cost. Implications of the test results on future design of blast resistant buildings will be discussed.   Suggested reading In preparation for this webinar is article ‘Four generations of fire and blast resistant walls’ on page 16 of FABIG newsletter issue 68 – February 2016.
